Today’s spark is the phrase “Absorb + Express.” Every one of us is like a sponge: absorbing information through a sea of interaction, much of which remains unnoticed even as it dances clearly into view. And, like a sponge, each one of us is ultimately emptied of the “liquid” we’ve historically absorbed. We absorb what we engage with; we express through our ideas, words, and deeds. The question is: what have we been submerged in? Is the “liquid” safe to handle? Does it vitalize or poison? Is the flavor still enjoyable to drink? The best part is: each one of us is totally empowered to select what we engage with – we can purify the liquid any time it starts to taste a little “off.” The fact is that experience presents a flow of content we select from every moment of the day. Hearts continue beating, Nature functions without error – even as we worry over little things. Similarly, worrisome predictions fill the “airwaves” all around us even as we choose to celebrate a tree. There is no end to the options; what remains is to decide what we prefer. Will we absorb the fearful clamor or attend to that which amplifies our peace? Will we disseminate the poisons or contribute to the Blessing Life is constantly expanding (even when we fail to notice that it is)? The truth is that we vitalize each other any time we choose to vitalize ourselves. This is why our objective is so simple yet significant. This is why we’re invited to: “Attend to that which profits. See the Good.” [15.234]
