DEVOTIONAL #1
Written by Timothy Brainard
Today’s spark is the phrase “Accept the Promise.” The ember of our Innocence responds to words like these without a need for explanation – but the Intellect deserves to understand. (The Latin roots of Intellect reveal a word that means “to understand.”) The Promise is that every act resolves, in fact, to Goodness; every detail serves a purpose; every moment is a messenger of Good. The Promise is that each life is contributing to All Life in a way that is appropriate, evolving, and protected – in a way that is completely by Design. To accept the Promise means to rest our willingness to argue with the presence of an Orchestrating Hand. It means to recognize the evidence of Grace afforded to us in the ordinary pulses of a day. Consider all the worrisome predictions you’ve outlasted; how much wiser you are now than you once were. Consider how the constant flow of large and small decisions you have made throughout a lifetime led you somehow to this moment with these words. (Consider why they feel the way they do.) We cannot help but wonder in the face of such a promise: is it safe? And we discover in response to this an absolute assurance that: “It is the only Safety that exists.” [16.191 and 16.194]
